Community Guidelines

Viharam exists to connect urban travellers with rural India's communities in a respectful, authentic way. These guidelines help keep our community safe and welcoming for everyone.
Respect and Dignity
- Treat every host, ambassador, and fellow traveller with kindness and respect
- Do not discriminate on the basis of religion, caste, gender, age, nationality, or disability
- Respect local customs, traditions, and religious practices
- Ask permission before photographing community members, especially in temples and during rituals
Authentic Engagement
- Participate genuinely — do not treat experiences as tourist traps
- Learn basic courtesy phrases in the local language when possible
- Accept that schedules in rural India may be flexible — be patient
- Be open to cultural differences and unexpected moments
Reviews
- Write honest, constructive reviews based on your actual experience
- Do not write fake reviews or reviews in exchange for incentives
- Report suspicious reviews using the "Report" button
- Hosts and ambassadors may respond to reviews professionally
Safety
- Report any safety concern immediately using the SOS button or support chat
- Do not participate in activities you believe to be unsafe
- Emergency services in India: 112 (national), 100 (police), 102 (ambulance), 101 (fire)
Prohibited Behaviour
- Soliciting off-platform bookings or payments
- Harassment, intimidation, or threatening behaviour
- Sharing other users' personal information
- Using the platform for illegal activities
- Damaging host property or natural environments
- Attempting to manipulate Viharam's rating system
Reporting Violations
Use the in-app report button on any booking, review, or user profile, or email safety@viharam.in. We investigate all reports and respond within 48 hours.
Consequences
Violations of these guidelines may result in content removal, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination, depending on severity.
